Our Church - Our Taonga

Many classes have visited the church over the term to learn about all the taonga in our church. The priests have been busy teaching the children about all the different taonga. Click the links below to find out more.

Sharing our family taonga and treasures

Children have been bringing their special taonga and treasure to talk about and show their classmates. Click on the links below to find out more.

Our Special Taonga - Our Dads

Some classes wrote some lovely pieces of writing about fathers for Father's Day. Click on the links below and enjoy.

Special treasures and taonga

Term Three - Our Taonga - Our Treasure

This term our learning concept is Our Taonga - Our Treasure. The enduring understandings are
A taonga is a gift, belief or belonging that is treasured
and
Sacrements of the Church are treasured gifts from God.
We are exploring those understandings through the following essential questions:
1. What is taonga?
2. What is treasure?
3. How can taonga be created.

Senior Syndicate Science

Lots of science experiments and learning has be happening in the Senior Syndicate.

Have a look at the Comic Life science reports from Room 17 or
click here http://debhstfrancis.blogspot.com/ to read about some of the experiments the students have presented to the class.

Science - Change

Have a look at the Science Rotations in the Middle Syndicate.

a good look on all the class blogs and you see all the learning about our concept Change.

Change - Leaves

The children in Room 19 wrote poems about autumn leaves. Here are some examples of their work. If you would like to read more go to their writing blog.

Leaves floating lazily

to the ground, autumn time

has come around.

They are yellow, red, golden too,

they’re falling right onto you.

Dancing in them as I do, and what I say

is true!

Emily

Leaves!

Leaves!

Falling to the ground

silently.

The air is lonely, scarcely a sound.

Isaac

Leaves

Leaves!

Leaves!

gliding gently to your peace

as you sway, swerve, spin and spiral

to the ground.

The beautiful fresh breeze blows you away

past the sunset and into a bay.

The rustling and crackling of the glamorous,

bright leaves leaving.

Morphx

Mrs Pene's class has been using a programme called Morphx to change her students into wild aninmals! (Thankfully it was only clever computer programme or she would have had to send her class to the zoo!). Have look at the changes by clicking this link http://room10sfx.blogspot.com/2011/05/morphx-is-such-fun-way-to-change.html

Today, for a change, the Year Three children in Mrs Pene's class taught the big Year 5 and 6 children from Room 19 how to morph themselves into something else. It was awesome to see lots of people working together and it just shows you that we all can help others learn.

Change

This term the whole school is looking at the concept of CHANGE. Our big understandings are:

By responding to the Holy Spirit we are guided, sustained and renewed in life's changes.

Change is a process of action and reaction that can be explored for new ideas and innovation.

We are mostly learning about CHANGE through a science focus but as you know CHANGE occurs in all aspects of our lives.

Click on this link http://debhstfrancis.blogspot.com/ to Room 19's blog and see some of the work the children have been doing to learn about change in the material world - chemistry.
